Philly’s Pink Skull (aka Julian S. Process and Justin Geller) are having a solid 2008. Following the release of their stellar and diverse debut LP, Zeppelin 3, they unleash one of the best remixes for HEALTH’s soon to be released <a href="http://lpu.bigcartel.com/product/health-disco-cd"target="_blank">HEALTH//DISCO remix album. Process and Gellar do justice to the <a href="http://frictionnyc.com/blog/index.php/2008/03/28/friction-madlib-recap-32608-w-crystal-castles-health-team-robespierre-apache-beat/"target="_blank">FRICTION alums’ track “Heaven” and spin it into a dark dance-inspired late-night rager. “Heaven” is given a sturdy thumping beat and other electronic flairs, while entrancing vocals bubble up to the surface from the noise and lure you onto the shadowy dancefloor.

HEALTH//DISCO drops next Tuesday, May 27th on Lovepump United. Grab the remix below along with the dirty dance-floor-friendly “Unicorn Harpoon” from <a href="http://www.turntablelab.com/cds/0/0/41093.html"target="_blank">Zeppelin 3 below, which is out now on Tonearm/Free Press.

The inspired people at Stockholm’s <a href="http://www.nordiclighthotel.se/en/"target="_blank">The Nordic Light Hotel have come up with a concept called “Sound of Light.” The goal of the project is to portray the entire hotel through music by inviting musicians to the hotel “to interpret the hotel experience and express it by making a record.” The first contributor to the project was local hero Axel Willner aka <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thefieldsthlm"target="_blank">The Field. Willner came up with a four song EP titled Sound of Light with each track lasting around 15 minutes. The four tracks are meant for the morning, day, evening, and night to “portray all the various moods of the light and the hotel.”

Sound of Light is like a “classical” album, but comprised of all electronic elements; violins, cellos, and pianos are replaced by electronic beats and samples. Hypnotic and simply gorgeous.

<a href="http://www.nordiclighthotel.se/en/Experience-the-hotel/Sound-of-Light--The-Field/"target="_blank">Stream the entire EP at The Nordic Light Hotel’s “Sound Of Light” page. The only place the album is available (unless you plan on visiting the hotel and getting a hard copy at the reception desk) is digitally via iTunes. Check out The Field’s remix of Thom Yorke’s “Cymbal Rush” below (note: this track is not from Sound of Light).

I’ve made it no secret on this site that <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thefieldsthlm"target="_blank">The Field is one of my favorite artists of the year, in addition to his debut full-length (From Here We Go Sublime) I’ve also been really into his remixes. His trademark chopped up vocals and “dangling layered loops” that seem to be extracted to infinity are all over these tracks from bands like Battles, 120 Days, Gui Boratto, and my favorite of the group, Marit Bergman. The remix of Bergman’s “No Party” is serioulsy some badass shit.
