The beginning of the video for Telepathe’s (pronounced “telepathy”) “I Can’t Stand It” could see the lens of a camera moving across a gloomy and heavily fogged landscape only able to see a few feet into the distance. The song hovers like a morning fog with delicate layered female harmonies over a faint squall and weak heartbeat. The fog would begin to dissipate as the beat drops in around the 1:10 mark and then would whirl away in a breeze as the female vocals pick up. The camera would pan and come front and center on a sole female vocalist singing barely decipherable lines in a delicate pitch. That’s the way I would see it, but I’m no director, just the imagery the song evokes (to me).
The song really hooks you with the interplay of Melissa Livaudais and Busy Gangnes vocals, delivering lines like, “Oh you know it could be so much better,” over gorgeous melodies that will get stuck in your head for days.
“Sinister Militia,” from the Brooklyn group’s Sinister Militia 12” also sees dueling vocals, howling and trippy, with a tribal beat to boot. The “TMJ Remix” version of the song really amps up the tribal beat and adds some warped guitar sounds giving the song just what it needs to hit the dancefloors.
