Philly went out and got themselves a spankin’ new music festival. Like the Thrilladelphia Music Festival, the Philadelphia Weekly sponsored, Popped! aims to showcase a wide array of the city’s best and up-and-coming DIY/independent acts. The city’s homegrown talent is the highlight of the festival, which kicks off on April 9th and runs for a full week, concluding on April 15th. The festivities will be topped off with an official “afterparty” featuring performances by Soulwax and everybody’s new favorite band, Klaxons, at Making Time.
Some of the bands playing the festival include the well known Illinois, Dr. Dog, Bardo Pond, and Spinto Band, who all play together on one night. But the real heart of the festival will be Philly’s best kept secrets; Golden Ball, King Kong Ding Dong, Pony Pants, Sweatheart, Fursaxa, Pattern Is Movement, Asteroid No. 4, and many more acts playing throughout the week. The full list of bands can be viewed here.
Head over to the Popped! website for schedules and details and check out “Il Gigante” by Philly psych rockers Golden Ball below. There’s also a music player on the Popped! site where you can stream mp3’s from all the bands.
