Phoenix | Bowery Ballroom 8.07.06

I scored a ticket to check out French jetsetting playboys Phoenix last nite at the Bowery. They were entertaining, a tight band, but didn’t blow me away. Since it was my first time seeing them, I was surprised the lead singer couldn’t sing higher live similar to their recordings. He just seemed to sing in a different key most of the time (Yes, Sophia Coppola was there checking out her man). Got there late but caught a couple of songs from the French Kicks, they were festive and tighter than usual.
I felt sorry for all the people waiting in line who had their free Camel promo tickets that were passed out all around town and couldn’t get into the show. Rachael mentioned to me that they were only accepting the first 100 people with these promo tickets. If that’s true, what Camel did was total bullsh*t. Imagine if you were huge fan of the band and bought these tickets on Craigslist. Rocked! They weren’t even passing out free smokes. Cheap bastards.
