iancurtisOn this blue Monday or Wednesday, we here at CU just can’t get enough of the New Wave music resurgence happening in recent years, and would like to give a little respect because we’re so in love with one particular legendary group. Enough with the cheesy wordplay.

The grand-daddy of all New Wave and synth inspired bands could well be New Order, who released their new album Waiting For The Sirens’ Call overseas on March 28. I started having a liking for NO back in the days when my older brothers brought me on to their music, but I just think all Asians naturally love NO and new wave. Also happy to hear that they will be on full display in the NYC area at the Hammerstein Ballroom, May 5th. Tickets are kind of steep, but we’ll be there. Preview Waiting For The Sirens’ Call.

Not to step on our Music Editor’s toes (Justin), this member would like to introduce some new music. Recently the UK indie music mag NME, who these days write more like the marketing department of a major record label, tabbed who they thought were “A new generation of bands are using the music of New Order and Joy Division as a blueprint for their sound.” Check out the actually pretty good NME article about Battle, Performance, Editors, and Apartment.

The two bands Battle and Apartment in particular have been getting crazy-mad Ipod play on the strength of their singles.

Battle sound like early Cure with their frenetic sounding guitar and bass play and high-hats.

Apartment are a combination of pompous Morrissey vocals with Interpol-esque playing.

Here’s to hoping these groups’ future releases later in 2005, sound as strong as their recent singles. This will be sure to get CU member Christian to continue to jump on the fading new wave bandwagon.
