Our favorite album this week goes to Bunky‘s Born To Be A Motorcycle. We liked them instantly (which rarely happens) after listening to a few tracks from their album (listed below). They reminded us of some of our favorite bands including Deerhoof, The Fiery Furnaces, and The Unicorns (who supposedly disbanded). Bunky is made up of Rafter Roberts and Emily Joyce (pictured above) and hail from sunny San Diego, where they were named as one of the 10 best bands by the Union Tribune (who constantly refers to them as the “cutest” band in San Diego). Bunky‘s website informed us that Rafter is currently in the studio mixing 2 albums for The Fiery Furnaces.
Bunky currently doesn’t have any shows scheduled for the East Coast, but you can download three of their songs below.

A cryptic message from frontman Thom Yorke, posted earlier this month to the band’s official webboard, suggested that this may be the case, however vaguely, reading, “hey weve started work. (speaking of cookies) no really.” Now there’s confirmation from guitarist Jonny Greenwood to back up the gibberish.
“Everything starts with songs, and with Thom, and with the excitement you can get in the band when you hear new music, and you know you’ve got the chance to watch it mutate and change,” Greenwood told NME. “There’s nothing like that, nothing as exciting. We’re rehearsing at the moment, and again it’s fun. We all want to push forward, and when you have five people who are all like that, you couldn’t ask for a better thing.”
[UPDATE]: We discovered this band a day late via Central Village, but wanted to include it in our post this week anyway, since we only reviewed one band. R.U.O.K formed in 2000 while it’s members were attending art school here in New York. Since then the band has moved to Williamsburg and continued working on their music. They will be playing Pianos tonight, listen to their music below, it’s dark, stormy, and quite good. Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTIAN!

radiohead needs to either giveup or return to their OK computer and pablo honey roots.
they are the definition of a band getting by on their (now, not-so-very) good name, meanwhile subjecting their legion fans to increasingly wrist-slitting “studio albums” that bear little or no resemblance to their early, critically-superior music that made them famous in the very first place.
i hope this new album REALLY blows.
